Building a database for cars and thier parts, bad idea?

I had this one for a while in mind, I am thinking about building a database to track all car parts in the world mostly custom parts, and originals if I can do it. I don't know is this a unique idea, is it needed or helpful atleast? what do you think?

I think that there are enough auto parts dealers out there with their own databases that yours wouldn't make a large dent.
