If I want to build the pc can use a external hard drive (USB) instead of a internal hard drive????

  1. Quiet an interesting scenario...

    I think its not possible...

    better have a HDD with a minimum capacity(20GB or 40GB) for OS...

    Get a 500GB external HDD to store your datas....

This works all right on most newer motherboards, though be prepared to do some research (visit the manufacturers forums for the MB you're considering, the initial install can be tricky on some of them.)  If you were to attempt it with an older board you'd likely find it wouldn't be able to boot to the USB drive.

  4. well if you want to boot off of it, it will be slow as usb 2.0 max transfer speed is 480 mb/s but it never stays there while sata I ia 1.5 gb/s and sata II is 3.0 gb/s. plus internal drives are cheaper. you could use eSATA i suppose or firewire. also, your motherboard might not boot off of usb or firewire devices. so maybe but dont bother. you can get a 250 GB internal drive for around $60. just go with that.
