Don't worry so much about the processor - as time goes by they all come down in price and are easily replaceable. Concentrate more on a graphics card - if you actually are interested in true gaming.

well first off Intel typically has better quality, for a little more (Most of the L2 caches on intel are also larger than AMD's).

And actually, contrary to what the first person said, the processor does matter, without the processor, the GPU would be junk. You could have a 2.8 Single Core and the best graphics card in the world and you would get semi-low frame rates in an intensely graphical game.

And if your going to go for a gaming computer, oyu'll probably want something a little stronger than a 2.8 Dual...3.0 or overclock your 2.8 to 3.4-3.6 and you'll be good (although I recommend a 2.4 quad like I'm going to get in the near future, very cheap).
