Question:

Building collapse, will insurance pay?

Old store building, built blocks, contractor with lowest bid repaired roof, without removing old

shingles, not checking trusses, putting metal over it, and now the block walls are cracking up.

The building also has a cistern underneath the floor, roots growing under floor maybe causing damage to walls. Will Insurance notice all problems and refuse payment if building will collapse?

  1. you should always use a proper builder who can show you his insurance and not some cheap xxxxxx looking for a quick kill.you wont pull the wool over your insurance co thats for sure.we always seem to find out the hard way.[through your pocket]let this be a lesson for the future.

  2. If a building is so unstable that it can't handle a metal roof being installed without cracking, I recommend having the building condemned!

An investigator will easily notice all of these previous problems. Settling, expansion, contraction, moving shifting or cracking are all perils that would be excluded under any property policy. Therefore either tear down the building or get ready for one h**l of a lawsuit should the building collapse and the occupants/bystanders become injured.

  3. Insurance is not for normal wear does not cover gradual deterioration. The owner has a responsibility to mitigage damages, which means if they notice something is wrong and fail to take action to prevent further damage, property insurance may not cover it.

If a contractor did something improper, they may be liable.
