Does anyone know how to build horse stand stalls or a place where I can find out how? We're taking apart(well I took apart today) 4 box stalls and building stand stalls but I have NO clue where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :-)

  1. Stand stalls? You don't really wonna do that!?

    Edit

OK, that's fine, why don't you email me a picture of the place where you wonna put them, it's bad to say how to do when I don't know how the barn is built?

  2. First, you want to dig deep holes where you want to have the corners to pour in concrete to set posts in. So you'll end up with two lines of posts, sunk at least 4 feet down, and 6-7 feet out of the ground (that tall if there are problems with biting, shorter if biting isn't an issue). You want the ones in a long line to be about 4 feet apart, and the stand stalls ought to be 7-8 feet deep. Then you put up 2x4s on the tops, and put  them on both sides of all posts every six inches on the way down to the ground, closer together if you have problems with kicking while feeding (so they can't get their legs caught).

You're going to want to round off the corners on the way in, or cut them at a 45 degree angle so there aren't any sharp corners. If you would like a drawing, message me and I'll get one to you.

  3. You mean tie stalls...........yes, they are convenient  for just bringing in horses for feeding then kicking back outside.

  4. what is wrong with regular stalls with the door left open to the outside area? Just curious? We have regular stalls they have free access to but my mother uses stand stalls just a difference of taste I guess.

  5. well that does sound like a okay idea, and the one i've seen was just basic. they had a pole strieght out from the way (making a 90degree angel) and a gait(from a field) going from the wall to the pole/barn post. they made a clip part to the pole and could change the angles.

side note: we tried to put my horse in that standing stall and he would have not part in that, he freaked out and kicked/bucked/got his leg caught while trying to get away. after that we never tried it again. some horses dont like it. some dont care.
