  1. First off, your not going to build a whole lot of muscle with so little equipment. It may be beneficial at first, but the weight will start to become too light as you become stronger and your body will adapt to the same workout routines.

All I can say is go out and buy a barbell, a weight bench, and some weight plates if your serious about gaining a lot of muscle.

Remember to eat 125+ grams of protein and workout 4-5 days per week.

  2. Go to youtube and search fitnessvip

the guy has exercises you can do.

It takes a while to get big trust me. It may take 1 year.

1-3 months for tones and some cuts.

  3. If you can spend some money get a bench and some weights on craiglist.com, or kijiji.com. You can buy p90x workout program or download it ;)

  4. it takes a diet with quality protein as well to absorb in the muscles.

  5. I agree that those 20 lbs dumbbells will fizzle out and lose their utility in a hurry. If you want to build muscle, you have to lift progressively heavier weights, but you don't necessarily have to go out and spend a lot of cash on a weight set. Instead, you can use the stuff around your house. For example, a duffel bag converted into a sandbag can act as your resistance and you can perform a myriad of exercises. You can make it progressively heavier by adding sand. You can also perform bodyweight exercises, but make them harder. For example, one arm, or handstand pushups instead of regular pushups. One legged squats. You can even purchase a cheap chinup bar ($20 or less at your local sporting goods store) and do any variation of pullups/chinups.

  6. Eat alot of proteins
