Building your own home

Question

I am planning to purchase my first house in a year but I am putting serious consideration into finding a good plot of land and builiding my house, via a builder as my DIY skills are minimal. Has anyone done this and knows if it will actually save money rather than buying a new build house? Thanks

I have been involved in a few DIY homes.I will say build energy efficient/green.I have included a couple links to ICF homes which I dearly love,very efficient.
