Bulbul to take down Nephrite in the Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes at Curragh
The Group 3 Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes will be hosted by Curragh over six furlongs on Saturday, 26th May. The line-up of twelve for the race is pretty versatile and talented when it comes to racing and accomplishing at Curragh. The prize
money set for the winner is €40,625.
Bulbul, Shamardal’s three-year-old bay filly out of mare, Oriental Fashion, has raced twice during the new season and has scored second at Curragh through the most recent outing.
She set on in the season by competing in the Group 3 Leopardstown 1000 Guineas Trial Stakes at Leopardstown over seven furlongs on 15th April. She ended eighth on the track of nine as Homecoming Queen won the race while the 7/4 favourite, Fire
Lily, settled as the runner up.
Failing miserably after exiting the previous season with a win, Bulbul did not take very long to swing back into form and thus scored second in her very next attempt.
She was the 5/4 favourite runner up of the Group 3 Canford Cliffs European Breeders Fund Athasi Stakes on 7th May at Curragh over seven furlongs. She was paired up with D. P. McDonogh for the race and was left adrift by 4 ¾ lengths as the winner,
Gossamer Seed, reeled in for the wire.
Coming at terms with the third position was Ishvana.
Bulbul will race her third outing of the new season today and a straight second attempt at Curragh. Her ability to strike a second position there reflects volumes on her potential to win today. It will not be an easy race as it is packed with some quite
testing entries.
She will need to stay at guard from Nephrite, Pivotal’s three-year-old chestnut colt out of mare, Cape Merino. Not only has he been placed third in his most recent outing at Curragh rather he has even posted a win on the same race course during the previous
season.
He settled third in the Anne Brewster Memorial Loughbrown Stakes on 22nd April at Curragh over seven furlongs. The race was won by Requisition and finishing the closest was Coolnagree.
Nephrite too will be racing at Curragh for a straight second time but has the chances of getting intimidated by Bulbul.
