  1. Bulgaria comprises the classical regions of Thrace, Moesia, & Macedonia. Proto-Thracian culture in the region started to produce golden artifacts by the 5th millennium BC. The country preserves the traditions of the 1st Bulgarian Empire (632 - 1018), w/c at times covered most of the Balkans & spread its culture & literature among the Slavic peoples of Eastern Europe. Centuries later, during the decline of the 2nd Bulgarian Empire (1185 - 1392/1422), the country fell under 5 centuries of Ottoman rule. Diplomacy re-established Bulgaria as a constitutional monarchy in 1878, w/ the Treaty of San Stefano marking the birth of the 3rd Bulgarian Kingdom. After World War II, Bulgaria became a communist state & part of the Eastern Bloc.

Currently, Bulgaria functions as a parliamentary democracy under a unitary constitutional republic. The country has joined the European Union & NATO. It has a population of approximately 7.7 million, w/ Sofia as its capital & largest city.

They still preserved their traditions, so it became popular/tourists spot. ^_^
