Bulgaria head for final match of CEV European League – Volleyball news
A final four match of the CEV Volleyball European League – Women took place between Bulgaria and Serbia on Thursday, July 5, 2012.
The semi-final round of the tournament was being hosted by Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic. The match went on for four exciting sets at the end of which the Bulgarians were able to hand out a defeat to the defending champions and make their second entry into
the final match of the European League in the history of the Bulgarian program.
The Bulgarians were able to seize the day at the following final set scores: 34-32, 25-22, 21-25, and 25-20.
The captain of the Bulgarian squad, Strashimira Filipova, shared her joy at the win by giving the following comments, “I am very happy for this result; this match was like a final for us and we are very pleased that we finished it with a victory. Now we
just need to fight for the title tomorrow.”
On the other hand, the coach of the losing side, Zoran Terzic, shared his thoughts on the outcome of the match by giving the following statements, “They were better than us. We did not play well and I don’t really know the reasons for this situation. Definitively,
this is not good for us; we need to work harder for the next period, especially considering we have the Olympic Games ahead of us.”
The final match of the tournament is scheduled to take place on Friday. The two teams that will be competing in the other semi final match are The Netherlands as well as the home team of the Czech Republic. Bulgaria will be playing the team that emerges
as victor from the semi final match. Other than that, the recent win of the Bulgarian squad has enabled them to qualify for the next FIVB World Grand Prix championship.
The first set of the match started off with both the teams playing equally well. No team was letting the other take the advantage for a long time and the frame reached several ties. In the later part of the frame, Bulgaria managed to take the lead and extend
the advantage further based on their strong attack. But Serbia kept close. However, it was the Bulgarians who were able to secure a win at 34-32.
The first set win made it easier for the Bulgarians to take the lead in the second set and march ahead with the advantage. The Serbians could not over take their opponents as the Bulgarians went on to win the set at 25-22.
The Serbians avoided a clean sweep by taking the third set at 25-21 but they could not swing things in their favour in the fourth set of the game which the Bulgarians were able to dominate from the start. As a result, Bulgaria sealed the deal on the fourth
set at 25-20.
