Bulgaria selected to host FIVB World League Finals in 2012 – Volleyball news
The domestic federation of Bulgaria has just announced that it will be welcoming the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) World League Finals next year on its home turf. It will be the first time that Bulgaria will have the honour of hosting the
prestigious championship finals.
The venue where the matches are scheduled to be played is not public yet. The site is a newly built location by the name of Arena Sofia. It is specially designed to hold a total of 12,500 people to watch the matches taking place. The Arena Sofia will not
be accessible till the 30th of July when it will be introduced to the public with a friendly match between Bulgaria and Serbia.
The FIVB relayed their best wishes to the Bulgarian volleyball federation in a letter that stated, "The FIVB hopes the World League Finals in Bulgaria will be a success and looks now eagerly forward to the 2012 edition in Sofia."
Currently, Poland is the staging ground for the 2011 FIVB World League preliminary matches from the July 6th to the 10th.
The FIVB World League is an international volleyball event in which men’s teams from all over the world take part. The first tournament took place back in 1990 and it was later decided that the tournament would take place every year and various countries
would host the matches. The prize money associated with the tournament is also very appealing for the teams that take part in it.
The aim of the FIVB in starting the tournament was to create more awareness of the sport all over the world. This turned out to be a success as the concept of rotating host cities in each tournament created more presence. Along with that, the FIVB has made
it mandatory for participating cities to broad cast the matches at the local level. Not only that, the event has to be given publicity through the television as well as other media outlets.
The tournament has turned out to be quite a success with the cities of the world eagerly looking forward to play the host.
