Bulgaria snaps two-match winning streak of host Slovakia – Volleyball news
Following a wonderful performance on first two days of the tournament, the host of Pool D at 2012 CEV Women’s Junior Volleyball Championship Slovakia suffered the damage in third match.
Bulgaria proved to be a detractor for hosts and claimed 3-1 (20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22) victory, which broke the winning streak of Slovak team.
The City Sports Hall in BARDEJOV, Slovakia provided the backdrop for the match on Friday evening. More than 500 people came to watch the live action of volleyball in City Sports Hall.
However, the local fans were disappointed with the result of the match.
Speaking of the match, the No. 5 Bulgarian player Simona DIMITROVA provided most of the damage to Slovak side. She hit with great accuracy and precision, and totalled match-high 21 points.
Gergana DIMITROVA also served as top weapon for Bulgaria and added the highest number of spikes in the match. She registered 17 kills, which played a big role in her team’s success. Home team was supported by Miroslava REHAKOVA, who contributed 19 points
in the failing effort.
The first frame of the match portrayed a different picture as Slovakian ladies played in their usual style and pulled off success. They secured the opening stanza with five points at 25-20. The local team received huge applause from the audience for their
brilliant act.
Nevertheless, that was the first and only set victory that Slovakia could claim in the match. Bulgaria totally dominated in the next three sets and sent host Slovakia to its first loss in the 2nd round.
The Slovak mentor Eva Kosekova was not happy about the match result but he said he was aware of the potential risk. He shared his thoughts in the following manner, “We knew that it was going to be a hard game because Bulgaria is strong. We won the first
set, but we had to cope with a bad reception in the next sets and we produced many mistakes. The situation in our group is interesting.”
The Bulgarian head coach Radoslav Bakardzhiev also had his say about the match. He stated, “I think it was very a good match and the quality was very high. We lost the first game in this tournament, but after that we won two and we are back in the business.
I changed setter after the first set because our first was a little bit nervous and it helped us. I am very glad that my outside hitters were able to bring many points.”
Next up the Slovakian squad is scheduled to meet Dutch team in the fourth match of the 2nd round of 2012 CEV Women’s Junior Volleyball Championship. Bulgaria, on the other hand, will take on Azerbaijan and has bright prospects to win the match.
