Bulgarian International 2012: Kestutis Navickas beats David Obernosterer to grab Men’s Singles title
Lithuania’s in-form shuttler Kestutis Navickas stole limelight as he claimed Men’s Singles title after defeating Austria’s David Obernosterer in the final encounter at the Babolat Bulgarian International 2012 on Sunday, October 7, in Bulgaria.
The in-form Kestutis, who has been seeded at number six in Men’s Singles draw of the tournament, had to employ all skills that he had in his reserves to overpower his talented challenger by taking 52 minutes on court.
Kestutis worked really hard and won the opening game with a tight margin but lost the second set quite comfortably. However, he put ups stunning show in the final set and won the title match with a decent margin on the board.
Eighth seeded David, on the other hand, gave a spectacular fight on court by playing aggressive badminton but failed to live up to the expectations in the ending points and lost the match in a respectable fashion.
The opening half of first game was interesting when both shuttlers displayed their attacking skills and progressed closely until the one-minute break.
In the concluding half, Kestutis managed a wonderful lead by playing with precision but lost his control and cannot stop his rival from making the score levelled at 20-20.
At this crucial stage, Kestutis showed his aggression and scored two consecutive points to wrap up the game with a tight margin of 22-20.
In the following set, it was David who put up tremendous show and remained in complete control of rallies until the break.
After the interval, Kestutis tried to stop David from playing attacking badminton but failed to take the bird early and eventually lost the set with a 15-21 score on the board.
In the decider, Kestutis was in different mood as he geared up his speed in the opening points and stayed ahead on score board until the break.
The higher ranked Lithuanian shuttler continued showing up his elevated skills on court in the concluding part of second game and managed to end it up with a huge difference of 21-13.
Kestutis won the Men’s Singles crown by finishing off the final battle in a dominating fashion with a 22-20, 15-21 and 21-13 score on the board.
