Bulgarian Team honoured by Prime Minister for success in World League preliminary round - Volleyball
The Men’s National Volleyball Team of Bulgaria recently finished the fifth week of 2011 FIVB World League Prelims with great success over their Japanese counterparts. The Bulgarian team served as the host side in two matches, which were played in the City
of Varna. The home squad played excellent volleyball and added two more wins to their tally. Following the team’s success against Japan, the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Boyko Borisov, visited the team to congratulate them on their brilliant performance.
The Prime Minister and National Volleyball team met at the Grand Hotel in Varna. The head coach of the team, Radostin Stoytchev, accompanied his 17 players captained by Vladimir Nikolov. Moreover, the officials of Federation International de Volleyball (FIVB)
and Confederation European de Volleyball (CEV) were invited to the assembly. The President of Bulgarian Volleyball Federation and member of CEV Board, Mr Dancho Lazarov, also showed up at the gathering.
The sole purpose of the meeting was to acknowledge the hard work of the Bulgarian team in World League competition so far. The team has done well so far and is ranked at number two in Pool B. The Prime Minister was delighted that the volleyball squad had
done so well and has earned laurels for the country. Likewise, the President of Bulgarian Volleyball Federation appreciated the effort of the head coach and players.
Meanwhile, the head coach and players of the national team expressed gratitude for the attention and the monetary support that their government had given to the sport of volleyball. They thanked them for their encouragement and support. Taking full advantage
of the opportunity, President Lazarov presented the official jersey of national team to the Prime Minister. The shirt was inscribed with Borisov’s family name on the back side.
The Prime Minister was happy at the good-will gesture from national volleyball team. He expressed his commitment to the sport and said that the government will fully support the upcoming Olympic Qualification Tournament for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The tournament will be hosted by Bulgaria in the month of May, 2012.
It was a very successful meeting, which boosted the morale of the players. Bulgaria is scheduled to clash with the top team of the tournament, Russia, in their next two matches. The Bulgarian team has high hopes of dismantling the powerful Russians in their
upcoming encounter of the FIVB World League 2011.
