Bulge in rear tyre, directly opposite an indent. What does this mean?

I have just found a small bulge in my rear passenger side tyre, but directly opposite the bulge is an indent of the same size. What on earth does this mean?? I have checked the rest of the tyre and it seems to be in good condition. Is this safe to drive?

  1. it sounds like you've bruised the side wall and now the cords have separated and the tire is no longer safe to drive on

  2. You possibly have a separated cord inside and it is dangerous to drive, you need to replace the tire asap.......

  3. No don't drive it unless you have too. The bulge is because the damage has caused a weakness in the cords in the tyre wall. Change it immediately.

  4. the indent may be from an impact on a curb, pot hole, or other road hazard. the bubble is likely the steel belts inside the tire starting to bunch up. remove the damaged tire and put on the spare before you move the car again and replace the damaged tire.

  5. All tires have a small dimple/bulge on both sides of the sidewall exactly opposite of each other. That is where the strips of rubber join together to make the tire. They are perfectly safe & some are more noticeable than others.

The ones you need to watch for are areas of the sidewall or tread that look like a big bubble (or similar to the "goose egg" you get when you bang your forehead on something hard). These are the ones that indicate internal tire damage that could cause the tire to blow or tread separate.
