  1. Sorry,

    What age is a "freshman"?

And what position are you playing?

    Are you 130lbs ?

  2. It will take time. Trust me, there is no quick fix, I am like you, I have a very fast metabolism and have struggled to gain weight for rugby.

You will need to start (if you haven't already) a decent weights program, research it a little or ask a personal trainer at a gym if you have no clue, and stick to it, stay motivated and dont waste the time spent at the gym! If you're serious, it is recommended that you undertake 2-3 sessions a week if you wnt to see results. This takes dedication and some dicipline to stick to, especially if you have to go out of your way to go to a gym and find membership.

Secondly you will need to increase your body's protein and calorie intake. This can be done by using a protein supplement immediately after your weights session. Your daily intake of protein should be roughly 1g of protein to every pound of body weight. Carbohydrates are also important for your body shape and for gaining mass, you should be consuming 2g - 3g per pound of body weight a day.

Try also to break your meals up into 6 meals a day instead of 3 meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner). Also have something handy to snack on every now and then so once u feel the hunger bug coming on you can dous it's flame with something to nibble on like nuts or dried fruit.

Check this site out, it is a wonderful site and outlines what you'll find on most bodybuilding websites and sites that relate to mass gain in general, and it is also aimed towards the rugby cohort anyway. http://www.musclebulletin.com/articles/a...

But also remember, if you play in a position that requires mainly speed you will also have to be doing some speed and power training to maintain your fitness level due to gained weight. It's not all size, its skill too. Size will only get you so far in this game.

Good luck on your weight gaining aspirations and hope all goes well. Have a Merry Christmas, eat LOTS of turkey and ham :P.
