Bulldog vs shih tzu???

Question

heya,

im planing on buying a dog next year when our house re-furb will finally be complete so we can move in.

now i know theres a major differance but i love bulldogs and shih tzu's.

the things which are putting me off a bulldog is the fact they have been bred so much they cant breath properly and have alot of health issues- is this true for all bulldogs or just pedigree 1s?

im leaning towards a s**z tzu because they dont moult.

they are both very cute and in a perfect world i would choose the bulldog.

can any1 give me any advice on either breed and also any other small breeds which may be suitable....i have no children as yet, and a VERY large garden (although its more like a jungle atm).

The only cause for these problems is inbreeding.inbreeding is when 2 of the same genes mate.(Brother Dog and Sister Bic* mate)this is cruel and is only done to create the perfect dog.but over time the shape changes in the dogs skeleton.Especially the skull.the German shepperd's legs are too far down now.if i were u i would get a Bulldog.

Hi. I have 2 rescue dogs.................. a Shih tzu and a Bulldog.  My Bulldog has a few health issues with his breathing and his skin (can cost a lot of money in vet bills).  My Shih tzu who is 7 has not had any major health issues and as you pointed out they do not lose their hair.  The downside to that is that it costs me £25.00 every 7 to 8 weeks to get her hair cut.  I love them both to bits though and couldn't imagine life without them.

well mdear,i have always thought that a s**z tzu is a zoo without animals.lol.to be honest,you would make a good choice with this breed of dog,i have 2.also cross breeds such as a collie cross would be an excellent choice.this dogs main intention is to just want to please you.good luck,remember to have a doggie you must really want the commitment.

well if you're looking for a dog that will be at least big enough to catch a Frisbee then go for the bulldog. if you're looking for a cuddle get the s**z tzu. if you do get a bull dog get insurance straight away. when you do get your dog don't get it from a puppy farm as nearly most of the time they are bad news. before you get your dog make sure you have prepared. as when i got my dog the man landed to the door and i didn't even have a bed for the the 9 week old pup and lived in a cardboard box for about 2 weeks! if you are getting it from another country make sure it is micro chipped. one of the first things you should do though is take it to the vet to have it checked over.

but my opinion is to get a miniature schnauzer

Why not get a rescue dog instead of perpetuating the in breeding of some of these poor animals. You will be saving some poor creature from a life in kennels too.
