Bullet train question...........?

Are there any plans to build a "bullet train" like the one in Japan here in the United States? I think it would be fantastic if one was constructed. Would you ride it if one was built? It operates on electrogmagnetics, giving it an incredible speed.

  1. nope but that's coz i live in the UK, but if they built one here i would go on it, very quite to, no rail noise

  2. Japan's Shinkansen (Bullet trains) are electrically powered by overhead wires.  Top speed is about 240 km/hr (about 150 mph.)  France also has their TGV trains which are slightly faster than Japan's trains.  Germany has its ICE and China just opened up a high-speed electric train.

Magnetic-levitation (mag-lev) trains are different animals.  They are powered very powerful electromagnets on both the train and track.  The EM fields are time-phased to oppose each other to accelerate and slow the trainset.   Shanghai has a magev train, from its airport to about 10 km west of the downtown, and its top speed is nearly 415 km/hr (258 mph.)  They have proposed another maglev train out of Beijing.

California has a high-speed rail initiative working on plans and feasibility studies, but there is very little, if any funding beyond planning.   Las Vegas is studying to build one to Los Angeles.  And I think there is a Texas High Speed Rail program under study as well.

  3. I think i herd on the history channel that they were going to build one out east.  I think i would ride in one.

  4. I have no idea about one in the states, but I'm in Japan now and it is AMAZING!!

  5. As long as Republicans control the US and Americans insisit on driving there SUV's at 3 dollars a gallon no.

The closest thing we have is the Acela Express
