Bulls coach Frans Ludeke applauds Victor Matfield’s leadership role against Stormers - Super Rugby
Frans Ludeke, Head Coach of the Bills, has appreciated his skipper Victor Matfield for his brilliant display of captaincy against the Stormers. The Bulls defeated the South African table toppers, Stormers, in their previous match of Super Rugby championship
on June 11. The coach was all praise for Matfield on June 13, in a press briefing and said that he led his side from the front to secure the much needed victory.
The Bulls are having a rough and tough season as they lost a few early matches which made the situation harder for them in the remaining round. They managed to bounce back in the tournament after the seventh round of the current Super Rugby and have secured
six consecutive victories in a row. They are now required to win their last clash of the matches against the Sharks to claim a play-offs position.
The Bulls are currently placed fifth at the point tables with 53 points and another win could take them further up on the rankings. The Bulls will compete with the Sharks and Waratahs for a play-off spot as they have almost equal points to the Bulls.
The Bulls coach is hopeful to end up the round matches among the top six teams of the tournament. He praised the command of Matfield and said that he was impressive against the Stormers and one more output like this could see them into the playoff stages.
He added, “Our tactical decision-makers were very good and here one has to emphasise Victor’s role. His decisions were very good and he provided good leadership on the field. You could see everybody knew the plan throughout. The guys were committed to ensure
that it was executed.”
Ludeke further said that, “Both teams really wanted to win. They were playing to secure a home semi-final and we were playing to keep our tournament hopes alive. We finished a little better than them and made better use of one or two opportunities, but other
than that it was a very equal match.”
The Bulls have done all the hard work in the current Super Rugby championship and they will not let the last match against the Sharks slip easily from their hands.
