Bulls’ scrumhalf Fourie du Preez out for two weeks from ongoing Super Rugby Championship
The Bulls will miss their scrumhalf, Fourie du Preez, for two weeks after he sustained a knee injury during their last clash against the Sharks on May 21st. He was knocked down during the first half and was sent off the field straightaway but
was recalled to the pitch during the second half. The Bulls clinched a victory in that game against the Sharks by 32-23 last weekend.
The Bulls team doctor, Org Strauss, told the media this morning that the scrumhalf has been struck hard on his knee and scans would determine his availability for upcoming crucial matches. The doctor also said that he has sustained this particular injury
many times before and it was not of severe nature. Strauss further said that Du Preez had injured medial ligaments which can take two weeks to completely recover.
Bulls coach, Frans Ludeke, found the causality disappointing for his side and said that Du Preez was in a real nick in the ongoing Super Rugby season. He added, “It’s not really going to help us to speculate if we’re not 100% sure. The best will be to wait
until after the examination because then one can make an informed decision. But the fact that he was able to complete the game suggests the damage could not have been too bad.”
The coach was hopeful about the quick recovery of the injured player and was very excited about last weekend’s triumph. He shifted the conversation towards the previous match and said it was a great achievement for his team. Strauss said, “This really was
a terrific win. We wanted to get certain things right on the field and that is exactly what the team did. It was important for us to stay on the winning track and I think we did it with a good performance.”
Bulls’ skipper, Victor Matfield also preferred to speak about the victory rather than the injury of their star player and said it was great win for them. The Bulls will take on the Cheetahs in their next match of Super Rugby on Saturday, May 28th.
