Pretoria based South African Super Rugby franchise, Bulls, have signed the former Stormers duo of JJ Engelbrecht and Johann Sadie. The club has handed over a two-year deal to the duo that will ensure their stay at the club until October, 2013. Bulls confirmed
the signing of the former Stormers duo in a statement released on their website on Friday, July 8.
Both Engelbrecht and Sadie will join the Bulls in November, after the conclusion of their 2011 Currie Cup campaign.
Bulls High Performance manager, Ian Schwartz, has expressed his delight at the signing of the up and coming players. He praised the skills and abilities of both players and their recent performance in the Currie Cup and Super Rugby campaigns. Both Engelbrecht
and Sadie caught the attention of professional clubs with their impressive performances at Under-21 level.
Schwartz added, “Both players are exceptional talents and have proven themselves at Currie Cup level, while Johann Sadie immediately made an impact at Super Rugby level in his performances for the Stormers.”
Schwartz has expressed hope that both players will continue to work hard to become regular members of their side. He further added, “We believe they will fit in well with the vision we have at the Bulls for the next few years and are sure they will become
an integral part of the Bulls family.”
The 21-year-old Johann Sadie impressed everyone with his exceptional performance for the Stormers during the 2011 Super Rugby championship. His decision to part ways with the club has come as a major blow for the Stormers.
Sadie has termed his stay at the Stormers as enjoyable. However, he considers that he will have more opportunities with Bulls as compare to the Stormers. He said, “I have enjoyed my time with the Stormers immensely. I am a loyal person, so it was a difficult
decision, but I am excited about the opportunities that I will be afforded at the Bulls.”
Bulls Chief Executive Officer, Barend van Graan, has termed the signing of Engelbrecht and Sadie as a good choice for the team. He further added, “We have a vision to become a world leader in rugby and players like Johann and JJ will contribute towards that
goal.”
Barend van Graan has expressed his satisfaction that the promising young players prefer to join Bulls as a mean to develop and improve their career in professional rugby.
Bulls finished 7th at the end of the 2011 Super Rugby Championship table with 54 points coming from their 16 matches in the season which includes 10 wins. The signing has strengthened their squad for their 2012 Super Rugby campaign.
