Bulls skipper Victor Matfield praises his team’s victory over Stormers - Super Rugby News
The Bulls captain, Victor Matfield, has praised his side for their brilliant victory over the Stormers. The Bulls overcame the South African top ladders, Stormers, by 19-16 in a Super Rugby match played on June 11, in Newlands. Talking to the media today,
on June 12, he said that it was as tough as a test match, but his side has done well to handle the pressure. The impressive win has catapulted the Bulls’ into the top-six teams of the tournament.
The Bulls are now placed in the fifth overall position on the point’s tables with 53 points after 15 outgoings. They were struggling in the championship earlier on in the season but bounced back quite nicely. They have now won six consecutive matches in
the ongoing season of Super Rugby. The Bulls are left with one round match in the championship and victory could assert their position in the play-offs.
Talking to media, Matfield said that his team has got good momentum in the current season and was optimistic of making his place in the play-off stages. He further said that Stormers had not played up to the mark on Saturday’s fixture. He added, “Our defence
was pretty good and their defence was pretty good. It was a tough game. Luckily we won the game and that's the only thing that matters. You can only play as well as the opposition allows you to play and I think both defences were awesome, in the faces of each
other.”
Matfield shifted his conversation and said that, “There wasn't a lot of momentum for either side and if you don't have momentum it's very difficult to play with the ball. Six weeks ago we said if we lose one game, we're out of the competition. Six weeks
later, with one game to go, we're in the same position.”
They will now play against the Sharks on June 18 in their last of the Super Rugby round matches. It will be a do or die match for them and Matfield is hopeful to qualify for the play-offs.
