Question:

Bullying-Type Question! Please help?

I've been working at this restaurant for about 3-4 months now, and I'm already getting sick of it. I'm only 16, and most of my co-workers are around my age, with a select few being adults. I am not looked at as being the "new kid" or anything, so I dont believe that is the problem. Everyone up front who I work with constantly picks and teases me, and it's really starting to p**s me off. For example, I just got back from the beach today, and I stopped by work to pick up a paycheck I missed. While waiting for a manager to grab it, one of my co-workers decides to tell me I look like a douchebag with my hat on backwards, and with my sunglasses on. It's just these little ******* insults that get me. I have done nothing to them, but I am really starting to get pissed off enough to plot some sort of revenge so they **** off. They constantly tell me I am ugly, gloomy, annoying etc. What should I do to solve this problem? Quit? Revenge? Please help!

  1. You can not please everybody.  Do not get affected because that's what they want you to feel. It is your lost if you do that. Just think they have heavy loads in their heads and they cant find ways to unload it so they pick you. Pity those people because you are luckier than them. as a saying goes, "Do not do to others what others do unto you". Do what is right and you'll never go wrong. You are more matured than them.

  2. Find a lawyer and bring a harassment suit.

  3. just make fun of them back. thats what i do. hopefully they are just messin with you, its just what guys do. try not to take it too personally, but if its really bothering you, bring it up and try to find another job.

  4. The reason they pick on you is because they can.

You need some street fighting language experience & snappy comebacks.

he said.. "I look like a douchebag with my hat on backwards"

You say " your mom liked it "

"like what you think matters in the big picture "

Sit and think of a lot of these

As far as filing a harassment suit.

This is such a load of nonsense--the harassment laws.

    I know because Im female.

You start something like this, and no surer way to lose your job.

I know there are laws ..but if  they get rid of you- they get rid of the problem.

Then you have no job and huge lawyer fees to pay.   Besides your 16 and this stuff never ends, in life. You need to learn how to defend your honor.

  5. kick his ***.

  6. I would take it up with a manager in confidentiality.  Who are they to make comments like that to you?  Ask that an "ally rally" be held where all employees are present and to have the issue be addressed in general so you're not singled out and looked at as a "rat" - maybe your manager can say he or she has noticed bullying and inappropriate comments being made, etc.

I don't believe in revenge because of karma... and the only reason why I don't suggest that you flip out on these people is because A)  I don't want you to risk losing your job  B) I don't think you should lower yourself to their level.

    ---------------

Edit:  If the establishment is really that bad all-around... maybe you should quit and find one that makes you a little happier.  Put in your two weeks notice and they can't really give you a bad reference for that.

  7. I say try talking to the manager about it, then they would have to stop but then they might try harder to get you upset(you know revenge). I guess the best is to earn their respect(it's usually the only true way to have them stop bullying) by challenging them back, it doesn't have to be "met me in the back" it can be that you figure out some really good comebacks and say them every time they do that. (Like when he said you looked like a douche bag you could have said "Wow, really? I was trying to look like you today, but I guess douche bag's the same thing anyway" and act like he was Complementing you(it'll usually confuse them at first and then they get it)and after a while of you doing that they'll give up (just remember always try to make it not sound like your saying an insult- that way they can't really report it ^-^) I've done this quite a few times with people that want to mess with me and it works really well!

  8. I agree with Queen of Answers.  You need to come up with some retorts that will let them know that they're annoying- and that you can dish it out and take it.  Show them you have a backbone and you won't put up with their sh*t.

Next time they tell you that you look like a douchebag- tell them that they would know because they must douche on a nightly basis.

In the meantime- try to have a thick skin.  Believe me- this is not the end of the world for you- and teenagers suck when it comes to giving one another a hard time.  They do it because they are insecure themselves. Just know you won't be stuck at that job with those people forever.

  9. set down and list your good points and bad points and then enhance the good and eliminate the bad as I an sure you are the one at fault here

  10. If he ever says anything like "suck my balls", you can sue him for sexual harassment and he can be arrested for sexual solicitation (and he will have to register as a s*x offender).  It sounds like overkill, but i have seen it happen so many times at the courthouse.  That should teach him a lesson.
