Question:

Bump on hard palate?

So I've had this little bump on my hard palate for a long time now. It's just in back of my teeth (maybe a millimeter behind) in the center. It's a small bump. Every once in a while it'll hurt a little bit, but mostly it doesn't. I saw one doctor who told me it was prob a cold sore (on my hard palate?!), but another doctor told me that it wasn't because it was not an open sore. He said it was no big deal and would probably go away. Well it hasn't.

So no one can tell me what this is, but it's still hanging around.

Any ideas?

(I used to have braces. I don't know if that makes a difference.)

  1. I have those also.  I have had them as long as I can remember.  I looked at them in the mirror and they looked like sores.  They come and go but most of the time they come.  It hurts to swallow sometimes but most of the time it doesn't.  I asked many people as well and they have no idea what it is.  I know that it has nothing to do with braces unless they use some kind of chemical that causes them and they just don't know yet.

  2. i had the same exact thing

  3. It could be tori (plural) or torus (singular) palatini.  That's a hard bump of bone that will either grow on your palate or under your tongue.  It is thought they are from clenching.  Think of working out-if you lift weights, your muscles grow.  If you are clenching, your bone grows!  Look up pictures on Google and see if it's similar. (they show pictures of VERY large ones, though!)  If it is T.P,  they are harmless.  They can grow big enough to need to have them removed, but that's rare.  I would invest in a night guard if this is the case.  Get the Doctor's Nightguard in the toothpaste isle at a drug store or somewhere like Target, Walmart, etc.
