  1. Sounds to me like it might be a "bible cyst". These are just ordinary cysts that usually occur on the wrist joint, but I would assume could come up anywhere. It's just a fluid-filled knot that sometimes swells, sometimes doesn't, sometimes goes away on its own, and sometimes has to be removed with surgery, where they drain the cyst with a needle. I've had one myself, and it was quite painful for a time, but my doctor told me how to fix the cyst, which also explains how it got its name as a "bible cyst". People get them all the time, and in the old days, people would whack them with a thick leather bound Bible, busting the cyst and letting it drain inside.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING THIS TO YOURSELF! Get a doctor to do it for you just to be on the safe side. They might even be able to give you antibiotics to make it disappear without having to beat yourself up.

  2. some kind of irritation.. it could be a really bad insect bite.. just wash it with soap and water and try not to put any kind of scented perfume --you might just irritate it more.
