Question:

Bump set while as Libero is legal?

I guess this is directed to Gordo,on one of his answers earlier.Im wanting to know if Bump set while at Libero position is legal,because you said "hand set" but nothing about"bump set" at that postion.

  1. You are correct.  Bump setting is legal for the Libero anywhere.  

    It is an illegal attack if the Libero is:

    1) on or inside the 10 foot line AND

    2) using their hands to set the ball AND

    3) ball is completely above the height of the net when the player sends it over.  

    If only 2 out of 3 happen, it is legal.  If all 3 happen, it is an illegal attack, not an illegal back row attack.

    The main problem is that the referees use the same signal.

    It is an illegal back row attack if the Libero:

    1) on or in front of the 10 foot line AND

    2)contacts the ball when it is completely above the height of the net AND

    3) the ball crosses the plane of the net or is legally blocked by the other team

    I hope this clarifies the rule.  It is not clear when you read it in the book.
