I'm putting all the info I can think of

Earlier today I bumbed into a car at the parking garage. We were going around the turn and grazed the back bumper of this huge black SUV. I stoped the car - looked at the damage. My car has a small dent in the door. The other car looked like it had a small white streak (paint)) on the bumber. No scratch that I noticed - but it was kind of dark. Definitely no dent. I left my name and number and that I had bumped the car and left.

Couple hours later we were back in that garage (kids had dropped something and forgotten it) - we were leaving and I saw a paper on the ground. I stopped and picked it up - it was my note.

I don't know if the owner even saw it. Maybe they saw it and dropped it. Maybe it fell off somehow. Maybe some horrible person thew it on the ground - trying to think of all possibilities here.

Anyway - I took the note to the parking attendant and explained what happened. He asked if there was damage to the car - I told him that there wasn't as far as I could tell. He said he'd keep the note and if someone called about it he could pass along the info. No one had said anything to him about getting their car bumped in the couple of hours since it had happened.

What do I do? This is my first time hitting a car and I'm terrified. I had no phone with me so I couldn't call the police to report it or anything. Noone was around who witnessed anything.

I'm just scared and don't know what to do now.

  1. Well, you have done more than most would do. Try taking out an ad in the Newspaper....THANKS for being Honest!  You Rock!!!!!!!!!

  2. You left a note which the driver may have just tossed - you gave the note to the parking attendant and thereby provided notification.  If it would make you feel more comfortable call your police dept on a non-emergency line and ask them if there is anything else required of you.

If you really want to be diligent, get the name of the parking attendant and make a note of the approximate time of the incident and when you gave the attendant the note.  This should cover you if anything comes of it.  You might also want to note everything you can remember about what happened - type of car, any damage you noticed, location where the car was parked.    In all likelihood, the driver saw the note,  looked at their car, and not seeing any damage, just tossed the note.

Doing all the above is probably going above and beyond, but since you're so nervous it might make you feel better covering everything now.

  3. Dont stress out just run for the hills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. You can't get charged with hit & run -- virtually impossible, because in order for them to find you, they have to find your note.

For next time (God forbid) -- take a picture of the other car -- just in case the owner of the car you hit is not so honest as you are, and slams into a support post when backing out of his parking spot, and tries to hang the whole repair cost on you..........
