Question:

Bumps on Puppy's p***s?

My 4 months old lab mix puppy has all of his shots and has been on flea/heartworm medicine for 2 months now. He has always had mole-like bumps on his bare tummy, but recently I have noticed smaller more reddish bumps on his p***s. He is neutered and still has his sharp baby teeth, so it could be from just biting himself. However I am still nervous. Is this common?

  1. The mole-like bumps on his chest are nipples. He should also have one on his tummy that is his belly-button (yes, dogs have them too! It kind of looks like a mosquito bite). The bumps on his p***s could be any number of things - either bug bites, skin allergies (has he been laying in grass that has been sprayed with pesticides?), a skin reaction to over-grooming (dogs l**k their genitals a lot to keep them clean), or some kind of infection (bacterial is common in little puppies). If the skin around the bumps is red, swollen, or hot to the touch take him to the vet immediately. If the skin seems white or soft pink, is not raw or sensitive to the touch, and doesn't seem to be causing him any pain wait a day or two to see if it goes down. In the meantime avoid over bathing or harsh cleaning wipes. Use a soft cloth with cool water to wipe his genital area twice a day and you can use a little (VERY little) antibacterial ointment to relieve any discomfort. You can also use a protective collar to prevent him from l*****g the site after medication is applied or to prevent further skin irritation. Take him to your vet ASAP if you notice severe straining while urinating. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

  2. Fleas maybe. Or ticks.

Other than that, feed him Nature's Variety rice and duck meal from petco. It's specially formulated for puppies with sensitive skin.
