Bundesliga: Leaders denied of a record
Thanks to the Greek star, Theofanos Gekas, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucas-Barrios-c22533 who missed a sitter that could have saved a point for the Dortmund side.
Dortmund players were giving signs of the European hangover after the vital match against Spanish side Seville just 2 days ago and it was the home side that looked more attacking and more likely to score a goal.
Dortmund shot stopper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-Clark-c30978, the man from USA, missed a free header that should have atleast hit the target.
After the explosive 1st period that was dominated by the home side, Dortmund came back fairly strong in the 2nd half and a volley from Mario Goetze was saved and then, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nuri-Sahin-c28251 almost scored by a free-kick which just sailed over the
cross bar.
Benjamin Koehler almost scored a great goal after the break but nothing really happened to heat up the game as the clock reached 60 minutes. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ralf-c30492 Faehrmann.
A few bright moments came for the hosts but the home team grew ultra defensive. Gekas' goal later on secured three points for Frankfurt after Lucas Barrios woefully missed a clear goal scoring opportunity.
The loss doesn’t affect Dortmunds’ position at the table and they stay top of the Bundesliga with 43 points, just one point short of the Bayern Munich record which the Munich side has repeated twice. However, Dortmund stay at the top of the table with a
sizeable lead of 11 points but Bayer Leverkusen will have a great chance of cutting this huge lead short on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Frankfurt have now closed a very impressive 1st half of the campaign as the win takes them to 7th place with 26 points after playing 17 games.
Theofanis Gekas’ goal today makes him the top scorer in the German Bundesliga and he leads the group with 14 goals, one ahead of Papiss Cisse of Freiburg.
