Bundesliga News: Bayern Munich defender Martin Demichelis to stay with German club
Germany’s top footballing club Bayern Munich was in a dilemma throughout the summers if their star defender Martin Demichelis is going to leave the club or not. Moreover, with the transfer window coming to an end, Bayern's management was anxious to get a final answer.
Now their worries are over as the 29-year-old Argentinean player has announced that he has no reservations in playing for Bayern Munich for another season. This comes after the defensive midfielder complained that he does not get enough time and exposure on the field.
This has been the truth that top quality teams like Bayern Munich could not adjust top quality players in their squad. Another factor that might have led the players down was Martin’s ability to play both as a defensive midfielder and a centre back.
Due to this reason, the player has never really evolved. As a result, Martin Demichelis was usually used in times of experimentation.
Though in the last season, Demichelis has been battling for a position in the first line. However, he has been pretty unsuccessful in this effort because of which he is out of the squad .
Demichelis has been omitted in the matches against Wolfsburg and Kaiserslautern in the Bundesliga. These opening matches were quite crucial to the club as they were responsible for Bayern having a good start to the season. These teams also happen to produce upsets in the German League but then again, that is very common in the German League. Bayer Leverkusen’s 6-3 defeat explains that point.
Demichelis has been playing for Real Madrid since 2003 and so far has compiled 237 appearances and scored 14 times. The player has constantly complained against this. He has been assured by Coach Louis van Gaal that he will have better representation in the coming season.
This summer, Demichelis was disappointed by the club but trusted van Gaal who came to coach at Bayern just last season. In his first season, van Gaal has led Bayern to a couple of record victories. With his club, van Gaal has won the Bundesliga, the DFB Pokal, and the DFB Super Cup along with coming runners up in the UEFA Champions League.
The club was defeated by Inter Milan in the final after they defeated Fiorentina in the Round of 16, Manchester United in the quarter finals, Lyon in the semi-finals and Inter Milan in the final. The final was a tough match but Jose Mourinho’s side won the final with a 2-0 margin.
In all these matches, Demichelis was pretty much left out of the side. For the Albiceleste, the player has had 30 caps since 2005 in which he has netted 2 times.
He had sent a clear message to van Gaal that he wanted more matches in this season otherwise he would start considering offers from other clubs.
Demichelis has been in contact with Chelsea, Sevilla and Juventus along with some other Spanish and Italian clubs for a possible move and reasonable salary and price. The clubs came out with better offers but somehow or the other, the Bayern board and coach convinced him to stay with the German club for another reason.
While talking to the media, Demichelis confirmed, “I will be very honored to stay at Bayern and fight. The coach gave me his reasoning and he said I had a hard decision to make, but I’ve accepted it already and there was mutual agreement”.
