Bundesliga News: Borussia Dortmund 2-0 Bayern Munich – Full Time Analysis (Part 1)
Borussia Dortmund is still at the 2nd position of the Bundesliga and continues to breathe down the neck of Mainz as the two teams continue to dominate the top of the German League.
Their latest victory over the defending Champions of the Bundesliga title Bayern Munich is their 5th consecutive victory; the impressive fact about this victory for Dortmund is the way in which they acquired it.
In the match at Signal Iduna Park, home of Dortmund, the hosts drew first blood in the 52nd minute. All credit went to Lucas Barrios and Nuri Sahin who hammered the final nail in the coffin for Munich’s coffin with a brilliant free kick just 8
minutes after the first goal.
This latest victory has now raced Dortmund 10 points above Munich. This also means that Dortmund is now just 3 points from the leaders on the table Mainz.
If the chances to score are taken in to account then Mario Gomez was a potential candidate for a hatrick in the match but at the end of the day the player could still not present himself with a better answer of why the Munich manager Louis van Gaal had opted
for him ahead of legendary German international Miroslav Klose.
In the first 45 minutes of the game Munich created many opportunities to score, most of which were wasted by Gomez. In the end all can not be blamed on the player alone as the decisions’ Louis van Gaal have been under severe scrutiny this season, despite
the fact that he took the German club to the finals of Champions League last season.
In the match, Gomez’s first effort ricocheted of the goal post in the 7th minute. He was assisted by Holger Badstuber from a free kick. That was not the first assist he lost as Mark van Bommel made him a brilliant through ball which he
lost because of a novice delay which gave Neven Subotic the license to clear the ball from danger zone.
Gomez was given another chance in the 41st minute however it seemed that he had issues with lady luck as the ball got deflected from the cross bar but Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller had a part to play in that.
That was not last straw that Gomez could pull from the nerves of his fans as the last minute of the half saw him head a good ball away from the corner.
Later Martin Demichelis was brought on to make his first appearance of the season. He came in the 2nd half to replace Daniel Van Buyten who had injured himself. It was perhaps best for Buyten to disappear before the match ended as he was the person
who could be blamed for the goals by Dortmund.
Demichelis gave away a poor header to Barrios, which gave him all he wanted to score in the starting 7 minutes after the break. After that it was the Argentinean’s strike that took the last and critical deflection off Badstuber as it travelled pass shot
stopper Hans-Jorg Butt.
After that Demichelis helped their competitors furthermore as he gifted them a free kick for callously handballing the ball on the outskirts of the penalty area. This gave Sahin the opportunity to swerve a shot into the top right corner of the net. The goal
took Dortmund to a 2-0 lead that remained that way till the end of the match.
