Bundesliga News: Mainz defeats Stuttgart 2-0
The start of the match was in great contrast with its ending when Stuttgart outplayed Mainz on one too many occasions, but this was soon turned around. Near the 19th minute Stuttgart had a chance of drawing first blood but Cacau the Brazilian born 29 year old German striker wasted a penalty.
The penalty was given when Maniz’s Cirprian Marica committed a foul on Nikolce Noveski. That was the end of Stuttgart’s impressive play and here onwards all that could be see was Mainz exploding and exploiting the Stuttgart defence.
The 19 year old Lewis Holtby brought an impressive shot between defenders to Sami Allagui who ended up netting the ball confidently and a nod from the referee changed the score from 0-0 to 1-0 for Mainz.
Soon after the 2nd half started Mainz scored another deserved goal with the help of Morten Rasmussen. Another man who impressed from Mainz was the substitute Adam Szalai. The first 20 minutes of the match were dominated by Stuttgart but in the 19th minute Stuttgart was awarded a penalty from which they were unable to benefit as Cacau kicked it to the goal keeper.
In the 20th minute defender Radoslav Zabavnik recived a yellow card for being too aggressive and just six minutes later Sami Allagui scored a goal from a right footed shot that was assisted by Lewis Holtby.
Mainz received another yellow card in the 38th minute as Christian Fuchs tackled too hard. Mainz dominated till the end of the first half from there.
Just after the beginning of the 2nd half, Mainz doubled their lead in the 47th minute when Morten Rasmussen scored a header with an assist from Bo Svensson.
In the 57th minute Stuttgart made a substitution when Timo Gebhart was replaced by Johan Audel. No difference in pay was made from the move as after a brief period of tries, Mainz dominated again.
Maniz was the one who made the next substitution. In the 67th minute Miroslav Karhan was brought out and Marco Caligiuri was placed in. That was followed by Stuttgart’s Philipp Degen being replaced by Martin Harnik.
In the 70th minute Mainz’s 30 year old goal keeper Christian Wetklo received yellow card for a charge as Stuttgart surprised Mainz by a good move but it could have been a fluke as the moment of success was soon followed by disappointment.
In the 72nd minute Mainz made another change by sending Adam Szalai in for Morten Rasmussen. 3 minutes later Stuttgart made a change as they brought in Pavel Pogrebnyak for Ciprian Marica. It seemed that their manager had a plan for a bout on the wings but team failed to deliver it.
Maniz held the ball just about till the end of the match and tried to make attempts at scoring but were unable to score another goal. In the 89th minute they brought in Jan Šimák for Lewis Holtby and soon after that the final whistle blew, end result; Mainz outshines Stuttgart 2-0.
