Bundesliga and its relation with the international friendly break – good for some and bad for a few
After a week of international break, Bundesliga is ready to kick-off once again and with only 7 games for each team left to play in the season, the 18 Bundesliga clubs are focused on their respective goals.
The following questions need to be answered, and will be answered very soon:
Who will be the eventual Bundesliga champion?
Who will qualify for Europe?
Which teams will be relegated?
All these and many other questions will be answered in almost 630 minutes – plus injury time of course. A decent start in the run-in to the end of the season will be vital and any team that makes a good start start this weekend will definitely have a better chance of achieving its goals.
How well have the German teams fared after the International breaks? Bettor.com takes a look at the outfits, starting from the impressive league leaders, Borussia Dortmund.
Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund should look at the International break as a blessing in disguise. In the first international break of the season, that started on 30thAugust and ended on the 10th of September 2010, Borussia Dortmund had some good rest and after the season restarted, they took pole position in the league and went on a 9-game unbeaten run. They won 5 games in a row and drew just two games. This weekend, Jurgen Klopp’s army will play Hannover 96 and should be confident if they take the aforementioned statistics into account.

On the other hand, the 96ers have not been able to record a win after an International break. Following the ‘pause’ after Week 2 of the Bundesliga, Hannover drew 2-2 with Leverkusen and lost the following fixture 2-0 at Wolfsburg. After the International break this autumn, Hannover lost their next three Bundesliga games and won just one. They should worry about this particular stat when they take on the juggernaut of Dortmund.
Bayer Leverkusen
It will be a true shocker and a historic one for that matter, if Bayer Leverkusen manage to overtake Dortmund at the top of the league table, but the side has done well after the International breaks this season. Last time when they got back from the break, they drew the first game at Hannover but then beat Wolfsburg 3-2 in a memorable encounter. Leverkusen play Kaiserslautern after the break, a side that lost 4 of their 5 games that were played after the previous international break.
Bayern Munich
The reigning Bundesliga champions won’t be lifting the title again and have to cling to the third place. After the second international break of the season, Bayern Munich went seven games unbeaten. They now face Borussia Monchengladbach this weekend, which has never done well after a week-long pause. Bayern Munich should be thinking positive ahead of this tie.
Frankfurt
New manager Christopher Daum, would take a lot of confidence from Eintracht Frankfurt’s record of the ‘coming back from international breaks’ as his side prepares for the game against Wolfsburg. They Frankfurt side went 5 games unbeaten after the previous break, while Wolfsburg lost three games on the trot after the break – advantage Frankfurt.
