  1. Hello there.

Selmer Bundy clarinets are built as student models.  They are of average quality but are fine for the 1st year students.   If it is plastic, it probably cost around $250.00 when it was new.   If it is wood, I would say that new price for it would have been $400.00.

The reason people don't really like them, is because there are other brands out on the market that are a lot more popular.  The Buffet clarinet is very popular, but it is also VERY well built.  Many people are also getting the Yamaha clarinets... but these are not as well built as the Buffet.   Any other name brands are not worth spending money on.   Your clarinet will work for you IF you take good care of it/ clean it / and don't abuse it... and will last until you can get another one.

    Hope I could help.

    Thank you for reading.  :))

    Hope that helps.

  2. It depends on the model you have.  Bundy is a sub-company, if you will, of Selmer.  Neither Selmer nor Bundy is the model of the clarinet.  If it is a student model, it should work just fine for beginning to intermediate players just fine.  Brand new that clarinet probably did not cost more than $300 or so.

  3. Bundy clarinets are very good for beginners, especially playing in a band where the sound quality is not the most important. If you compare it to a better clarinet it isn't that the bundy will sound Bad, it just isn't as good. They're great for playing outdoors- rain won't hurt them much.

  4. The reason some people don't like them is because some people don't understand about musical instruments.

It was written here: "Any other name brands are not worth spending money on."  How about Patricola?  Maybe Leblanc Paris?  Any number of older French makers?  Mollenhauer of Germany?  There is more out there than Buffet, Selmer, and Yamaha.  There are clarinets made much better than a Buffet factory made instrument - most of us just can't afford $8K for a clarinet so Johnny and Suzie in middle school band have never heard of a Stephen Fox clarinet.  The Bundy is not, and never was intended to be, one of these class of instruments.

The Bundy clarinet was made as a student level instrument for school band students.  It is solidly built contrary to popular opinion.  We know this because there are 40-50 year old multi-generational hand-me-down Bundy clarinets still in use.  That's pretty solid.  Ask a college band director what to buy for marching band season.  An old Selmer Bundy.  They are great for being abused - which is what beginners usually do with them.

What they cost new has no relationship to today.  Something that cost $100 30 years ago is very different than something that costs $100 today.  You can buy them all day long for about $30 these days and for another $100 can have it put in playing condition.  You can buy one in good playing condition for about $100.

Great "bangers" for people that need a marching horn or who have to play outside in the weather a lot.

  5. I started on a Bundy.  Honestly, I loved the thing!  They are great beginner horns, and very affordable ($200-$400).  There is nothing wrong with them.  As other posters have mentioned, they are a subsidiary of Selmer, who also makes some FANTASTIC clarinets (Selmer Signature, for example).

The thing is, they are ALWAYS associated with student models (that's Bundy's specialty)... it's the model that most kids start out on, honking away and driving their parents crazy.  It's the one that we all think of when Junior plays his first concert, none of the instruments in tune... and the clarinet reeds squeaking and squaking through "Hot Cross Buns".

I currently play many great (and expensive!) horns (Buffet R-13, Selmer Signature, etc.), but we all started SOMEWHERE, and a Bundy is a great stepping stone!  Don't listen to the dorks who tell you it isn't ok... if it works for you and you love it, that's all that matters.

    Have fun! :)

  6. You can find current comparable prices at wwbw.com

some experts are having problems regarding selmer and its subsidiaries due to a recent labor strike. If its just kids baggin on your instrument, don't pay attention to the c**p talk. Selmer makes good instruments!
