Bunion Surgery?

I am thinking about removing my bunions on my feet with surgery. I went to the doctor and he said that I would need surgery because the bunions are really big and that when I get older it will only make my other toes more crooked and cause more problems. He said I would have to have surgery over the summer because I will be off of it for up to 3 months and it will take a year for it to completely heal. I am 17 and I was wondering if anyone has had this surgery and could tell me more about it. I am very nervous about it b/c he said they would have to put screws in my big toe and cut some bone off of my foot. Please help or give advice. Thanks
