Are pet shops okay? I've heard they're not to caring... How would I buy one off a breeder?

Thanks :)

  1. Check http://www.petfinder.com/ for bunnies in rescues and shelters in your area. Even if they're a few hours away, many will arrange to meet you halfway or help with transport - they're very dedicated to finding good homes for their animals.

Unlike pet stores, you'll have to go through a bit of an "approval" process where you fill out an application and may have to do an interview, but it's worth it to save a life! Also, rescue rabbits are usually spayed/neutered if they're old enough and their health permits it. Fixed rabbits make the best pets, and it's cheaper to get an already fixed rabbit from a rescue than to pay for it yourself. The adoption fee for a rescue is higher than the cost at a pet store, but it's lower than the cost of a pet store rabbit plus vet care.

  2. you could look in ur local newspaper, mine has a 'livestock' section.  buying from a breeder would be pretty expensive.

  3. Can you adopt? It will save an animals life! :)

  4. Adopt and save a life. Don't breed or buy while shelter pets die.

    Here are some adoption links

  5. I've been looking for that answer to.Here someone just told me to look on craiglist.com or try to look on petfinder.

  6. if you are looking for a specific breed its best to go to a breeder but if you just want a pet you can run an ad in your local paper. Go to the ARBA website and look for specific breeders in your area. You can also google rabbit clubs in your area

  7. The best place always to buy a rabbit is directly from a private, hobbyist or show rabbit breeder but this may not always be possible and therefore many rabbit owners buy their first rabbit from a pet shop. However, it should also be remembered when looking to buy a pet rabbit that many rescue homes also have rabbits looking for new homes.

The advantages of buying a rabbit from a private, hobbyist or show rabbit breeder is that breeding has usually been carefully planned and thought through with regard to producing robust, healthy rabbits of good temperament. Show breeders, in particular, will have pure bred rabbits and will have aimed to produce rabbits that are of good size and a good example of the breed in accordance with the breed show standard, with the intention of keeping some of the young rabbits themselves for showing and selling the surplus rabbits that they don't keep.

Private, hobbyist or show rabbit breeders also regularly handle their young rabbits and so any rabbits they sell are usually confident about being handled. There is also have the opportunity to see the parents and be given the exact date of birth of the rabbit it is intended to purchase.

  8. Nooo, avoid pet stores at all costs. Honestly, rabbits are horribly overpopulated and I wouldn't recommend buying at all, not even from a breeder. I'd recommend adopting! http://www.petfinder.com

  9. 4-H club rabbit shows.

  10. Pet stores are the WORST place to buy from.. they want PROFIT only.. they buy cheap and sell high.. they support the cruel industry of breeding in small warehouse type cages.. over and over..

pet store animals will be less friendly

You can OFTEN adopt them from your local SPCA or shelter!

also (where I am at least) they sell them at odd and unusual livestock auctions.. the same ones where they sell chickens etc.. ask a local livestock feed store they will know..

typically these feed stores have bulletin boards with ads of rabbits for sale too..
