My sister-in-law has 2 bunnies; a holland lop & a lion head. Suddenly today the lop didn't move, eat, or drink all day. My in-laws decided to take her to the emergency vet, right when they got there she died. The vets tried to revive her but they couldn't get her to come back. They also said they think she died of a heart attack but couldn't give them an exact cause of death. She was an indoor bunny and was VERY WELL taken care of. My question is....the lion head bunny was her companion and he has never been alone, can a bunny die from grief after losing his only buddy?

Thanks for answering!

  1. watch him the next few days and see if he is okay, but I think he will need another friend..

  2. ok, huggs to ur sister awww that is sad..   Rabbits/ rabits are not known for dying under diress but wild ones will get over stressed and die.

concerning ur sisters it is sad but will live, yet it will miss its playmate, it needs to be played with even by ur sister, i bond with a dove and become best friends, but if i get a second dove they wont give me the time of day,  yet in death the bunny may bond.

i just got a baby bunny eyes still closed that the mother kicked out of its nest wild.  i got a lamp on it and feeing formula, cow milk will kill it.

doves, swans, robins and penguins mate for life and some wont eat if they lose their mate and die.

peace in Jesus care and prayer John 3 and 10 for our new life and heaven, and the bunny along with all good things will be there as mentioned in the Bible, so there is comforrt too

  3. Here is an article on that subject: http://www.sandiegorabbits.org/behavior/...

Offer them my condolences, losing a beloved bunny is hard. The fact they took it to the vet says a ton about them and how they loved their bunny.

  4. yes they can its very sad i suggest getting a new bunny.

  5. yes unfortunately they can. I would consider getting another bunny or waiting it out and seeing how he does.
