Question:

Bunny questions!!! =)?

Okay there is a lot of questions here, and if you don't know them all...just answer what you know =)

I just got a bunny two days ago. He is a Mini Lop Ear. *Super cute!!* Anywho.

I want to make sure I am doing this correctly..

I have a litter box in his cage, but, I am not sure he knows really to go into it. I've been putting some of his droppings in it and he still kind of just goes everywhere in the cage. I heard they are harder to train while little, so am I doing this right but I just need to wait and be patient for him to learn?

Also, I am currently feeding him rabbit pellets I bought and hay. I read that they also eat some veggies and fruit, but I want to know how young is too young to feed him this? I bought him at the petstore, so, I don't really know how old he is?? They said 6 months is when to start giving them the veggies...do you think he is 6 months?

And....

what else......

OH!!! I read you are supposed to clip their nails. How short?? And how do I know when they are too long? Something about doing this terrifies me, but I know I will have to do it someday.

And rabbit behavior...sometimes he just sits in one spot and stares. That is normal right? I mean...he can't always be jumping around.

Okay, I think that's it.

Any other helpful hints, websites or anything you want to throw at me would be great!!

*And please, none of this "you should have researched them before" stuff because that isn't helpful and I DID research him I just want to hear from other bunny owners*

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. Your training him right. i also reccomend you wiping his pee with a paper towel and putting a piece of it in the litter box. also some hay because they go to the bathroom while "grazing"

As for the staring, thats perfectly fine. he is just relaxing, dont worry.

Nail clipping- take him to the vet in the next week or two for a regular check-up and some routine vaccines. He will also live longer, about 4 or 5 more years if you get him nutered. It will also keep him from developing testicular cancer at about age 1 or 2. :)  Vet will also clip nails for you and clear any other questions. A regular dog vet will do your bunny :D

Dont listen to the pet store, he can have veggies now. just wait to give him fruit. I reccomend fruit such as an apple, but the seeds are poisonous to bunnies so be careful of that.

       :)

He is probably only 2-3 months, but thats fine for veggies. wait for 6 mos. for the fruits.

Good luck with the little guy. for info on training tricks, more litter training, and other questions, you may e-mail me at ValerieGrace55@yahoo.com

Oh and one more thing DO NOT FEED PURINA RABBIT CHOW!! IT HAS PESTICIDES AND KILLED 2 OF MY RABBITS!!!! :(

  2. Usually the pet shops can cut their nails for you. It's normal for them to just lay around sometimes, mine do the same thing. I'm not sure on the litter box. But your not suppose to give them a lot of veggies b/c it's not good for them, not sure of the age you can start though. I would call the pet shop and ask how old he is, it's helpful to know.

  3. As long as he's peeing in the litter box, there is nothing to worry about. if he poops outside continue to pick it up and put it in his litter box as soon as possible.

If you're bunny has always eaten hay, veggies are fine to start feeding. Introduce a new one every couple of days and start with something like romaine lettuce.

As for cutting the nails here some sites to help

If you are uncomfortable, during yearly vet checkups or at a petstore they can do this for you.

Sitting and staring is fine, they get tired too and need to take a break.

Anywho, have fun with your new bunny.

  4. Well you shouldn't clip their nails because there is a surten clip that you can get but they have skin under their nail. What I do is take my bunny to a vet when I see that his nails are to long. If you ask them They will clip the bunnys nails.

Well... I've never really potty trained my bunny but I have a litter box but it really poops everywhere. I have one carpet in the cage that covers the whole thing so every 2 days I take out Coco and put him into a smaller cage with water, food, and newspaper. I take out the rug and through it into a washing machine. Later I put the clan rug into the bunny cage and if it's climbing toys are dirty a fill my tup and put washing stuff and soak the toys in. I also clean the litter box.

Rabbet pellets is the way to go. I give Coco some lettuce, carrots, or grapes for a treat sometimes. I don't think there's a age limit. Just don't give the bunny carrots. Give it lettuce.
