Why do boat-builders need to know about the principles of buoyancy and density in order to build high quality boats?

  1. In general, objects with a density greater than 1, that of water, sink.

    Then, there is buoyancy, which says that if  an objects replaces a weight equal to its own in water it will float.This is due to the ipward force of the surrounding fluid.

Well if they didnt know about buoyancy then there is a good chance the boat will sink outright, and as for density, thats a need to know skill to make the ship as efficient as possible for the purpose it is gonna serve (light as possible for speedboats - dense for ice breakers etc etc). yould you want to fly in a plane made by someone who had never heard of the principles of flight and areodynamics? - of course not as they are the essentials in building a plane...same as buoyancy and density for ships..

  3. A boat that does not float does not sell very well.  Stability is much more important than mere buoyancy.  A log is buoyant, but not very stable.
