Burgher Recreation Club v Sinhalese Sports Club – Premier Limited Over Tournament, 2012/13 (Group B) – Match Update – Sinhalese Sports Club secure comfortable 7-wicket win
A composed unbeaten century from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mashtayage-Dhanushka-Gunathilleke-c75001 guided the Sinhalese Sports Club up to an easy 7-wicket win over the Burgher Recreation Club, in their Group B match, played during the ongoing Premier Limited Over Tournament at the Burgher Recreation
Club Ground in Colombo, today on December 30.
The game commenced with the Sinhalese SC winning the toss and choosing to field first. Effective performances from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wijesinghe-Mudiyanselage-Charith-Jayampathi-c96551 and Dasun Shanaka (both of whom picked
up one wicket each), saw the team managing to contain the opposition’s batsmen to a final total of 202 by the end of 50 overs.
Most of the Burgher RC’s top and middle order remained disappointing. Opening batsmen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Dorake-Witharanage-Ashana-Niroshan-Dilshan-Vitharana-c54507 (14) were both sent packing after registering paltry scores – the former off Senanayake, and the latter off Shanaka.
The remainder of the batting order was equally dismal, and while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Maddumage-Weranga-Buddika-Dissanayake-c73687
(4) out of the game, reducing them to 65 for 5.
Malith Cooray, however, drove the remainder of the innings forward with an unbeaten 81, and assisted by the contributions of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Liyanage-Don-Shehan-Abisheka-Perera-c73036 (5*), got the team up to 202 at the expense of 7 wickets by the end of
50 overs.
However, the chase did not prove too difficult for the Sinhalese SC, owing to opener Dhanushka Gunathilleke’s unbeaten 106. Lokuarachchi (40) joined him for an opening partnership worth 53 runs and after Lokuarachchi’s dismissal at the hands of Malan Madusanka,
Gunathilleke went on to set up a 43-run partnership with Bhanuka Rajapaksa (20).
Rajapaksa was eventually run out by Solomons, but the Sinhalese SC experienced no dearth of reliable batsmen. Wicketkeeper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jayan-Kaushal-Silva-c66641 (26) was next up to bat, and joined forces with Gunathilleke for a 46-run 3rd-wicket stand. By the time Silva
was swept off the crease by Gangoda, the team total had swelled to 142 for 3.
However, Gunathilleke left no room for panic, and his final unbeaten 64-run stand with Shanaka (10*) got the Sinhalese SC safely over the finish line, enabling them to reach 206 with 7 wickets still in hand, and 98 deliveries remaining.
