Trying to be the all star on my slow pitch softball team, I slid into home (I was still out). Now I have a burn type abbrasion on my knee and my ankle. The knee hurts, but isnt unbearable. My ankle is much deeper and hurts whenever I move. Its also swollen around the injury. Is there anything other than antibiotic cream and bandaids to make it feel better? Any suggestions??

  1. If you have an aloe plant, you can break a piece off.  This will allow you to squeeze the inside substance on your abrasion.  Natural aloe is wonderful!

  2. You can apply honey to the abraded areas. Honey is soothing, protecting, as well as anti-bacterial/fungal. Also apply cold compresses for the swelling. Keep the area clean and watch for signs of infection such as pus, increased pain, redness, or swelling. It is also a good idea to rinse with hydrogen peroxide after cleaning to kill any bacteria.

  3. I believe the answer is RICE.  Rest-ice-compress-elevate. Try a antimmflamatory drug such as Aleve or Motrin. You are already keeping it clean which is good.  Check the wound carefully to make sure there are no small pebbles or sand in it.  If you do see some sterilize some tweezers and remove. The pain will probable be bad for the first 24-48 hrs so go lie down and watch baseball on TV.  I bet your **** hurts also.  Good luck.
