  1. BCIT is a great school. Don't listen to Boycottvancouver, Kirsten a, or no n. They are trolls with absolutely no life, and just come on here to bash Vancouver. They (or more like the same troll, using different names) don't know what they're talking about.

    Every city has good/bad parts.

  2. I have lived in Vancouver 68 years  And not leaving Gods country  BCIT  has a great record    Start packing  ps we now live in Burnaby

  3. I went to BCIT in 2003-2005 and never had any problem with the school, the people there, the neighbourhood, etc. The people quoting all these "sky is falling" stories about Vancouver and Metro Vancouver being murder central, extreme crime rates, unsafe to walk the streets, etc, are warped. The moderators should just ban the whole bunch of them, they have a hardon for Vancouver and nothing better to do.

  4. well the united states to me is like iraq!!!!!!!!!!!!!NO THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NOW THATS A HORRIBLE PLACE!!!!!but yes burnaby is freaky, creepy, its wierd you have to remember that theres alot of addicts there think about it meth addicts etc etc etc to a EXTREAM DEGREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!TONS AND TONS AND TONS MORE THEN ANYWHERE IN NORTH !!!AMERICA!!!! thank god its in canada ????thank god !!!! that does cut down on the gun crime!!!!!but so far there has been now 29 murders in 83 days in metro vancouver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and the last 2 wernt gang related!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. BCIT is an excellent school.  Burnaby is a suburb of Vancouver and has it's good areas and it's 'rough' areas just like everywhere else.  You should probably contact the student union at BCIT to persue options for accommodations while attending school.

I'm editing my answer to second Barb S' comments about  Kirsten, no o and boycottvancouver.  Probably the same person who for some reason holds a grudge against Vancouver.  Any questions or answers to/from this/these people should simply be ignored or better yet reported.

  6. As a graduate of BCIT I can say that it is a very good school.  BCIT is not for those however who do not want to work (and party at times) as they compress 4 years of university basically into 2 years there.  I found the atmosphere quite nice there and the courses themselves well taught and interesting.

As for Burnaby, like it has been siad in previous answers, there are safe and unsafe areas like any city.  The Student Union at BCIT could certinaly assist you in getting orientated with the area.  I would suggest staying as close to BCIT as possible, not for safety, but simply to shorten your commute in the morning and afternoon.  There are several excellent malls and shopping areas within a reasonable distance.  Metrotown is one of the largest, if not the largest, malls in BC and has an excellent sellection of shops.  You need to exercise reasonable caution like you would in any large city of course but if you do I think that you will enoy your stay there.

  7. BCIT has an excellent reputation and Burnaby is a pretty safe area as a whole. Burnaby has a lot of single family homes and some areas with a lot of highrise apartments.

  8. I'm a frequent visitor to Canada, and I've never felt unsafe in Burnaby. I'm from jersey, I know unsafe, haha.

The area around BCIT is fine. There's great public transportation, good shopping, and lots of fun stuff to do. If you were down on East Hastings in Vancouver, then I'd worry.

  9. VERY UNSAFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE THERE AND HAVENT LIVED ANYWHERE ELSE SAY THEY FEEL SAFE????????/YA BECAUSE THEY KNOW NO DIFFRENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HORRIBL... HORRIBLE CHOICE TO MOVE THERE OR VISIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!EVEN IF YOUR NOT KILLED THERE WHILE VISITING CHANCES ARE YOUR CAR,ETC ETC ETC MIGHT BE STOLEN!!!!!!!!!

  10. My son attended BCIT last year and found the school to be very good.  He just didn't like the commute from Ladner all the way out to Burnaby and home during rush hour.

Most locations in the greater Vancouver area are safe but as in any city there is crime as well as gang activity.  If you stay away from the clubs downtown and behave yourself you will have no problems living there.  Good luck.
