I'm moving to BC and it's really tough to decide where to settle down. Burnaby, Surrey or White Rock. Commuting, Housing, Crime, Weather and shopping areas are the greatest concern.

I was thinking about South Surrey, but I was told that the crime rate over there is outrageous, Is that true ? And Also I was told that the closer you are located to the mountains the more rain you get, this one probably regards Burnaby. Am I right?

Thank you very much for your time and advice.

  1. Yes the closer to the mtns will give you more rainfall, it is not always a case of the North Shore has rain and Surrey doesn't, the rain is often just heavier. The nicest area is North Vancouver or West Vancouver, however the real eastate is much higher as are the rents,There is less crime in NV and they have a high education system. Burnaby is great but quite busy now.

  2. OK well, I live in burnaby and i can honestly say that I believe it is the best place to live in the lower mainland, because it is so central, good schools (in north burnaby), we have metrotown, etc. and... LOL well i just like the community.  it is true that south surrey's crime rate is very high, i have gazillions of relatives in surrey and spend two days a week there - definitely below burnaby.  the schools are not as good, the community is crazy, the kids....... just dont go there.  im sorry but i dont actually know much about white rock.

oh, and if you are moving here to the lower mainland you should know that: public transit is c**p everywhere besides vancouver, burnaby, and new westminister.

and for your question about the rain, there really is no difference.  the only thing i can think of is that in winter surrey gets more snow than us in burnaby.

i cant stress how much i love how CENTRAL burnaby is,  though.  you can get everywhere by transit in a matter of minutes, and it's quite simple.

the only thing about burnaby is that the housing prices are even crazier than south surrey and white rock, but the market has slowed FINALLY after years, so youre lucky that theres so much more available than usual :)

    good luck!
