Question:

Burning Hot Battery?!!?

I was sitting on my bed watching my TV and I noticed a burning smell. I got up and checked my wall just in case an outlet was overheating but I noticed the smell was coming from my bed. One of the batteries in my remote was getting super hot and when I touched it, it burned me. So I threw it down on the floor and then picked the hot one up with a piece of paper. It's still hot right now (it's been 10 min.). What happend?? The battery is a Rayovac AAA, and there were two of them in my remote but the other one is fine. I don't have a battery cover for it anymore because it broke. I'm just wondering what may have caused this to happen... It's pretty freaky!

  1. Ive seen this happen several times aswell. Usually i see it with cheap batteries, both in remote controls, electric tooth brush, various toys and such. Altso experienced a similar thing to what 5110 explains. Ive been looking all over the internet for advice for issues like that. And the only advice ive been given, use good batteries. So for the last 2-3 years, ive only been using Duracell and Energizer batteries, never had this issue since i changed to those.
