I have an old Kenmore (top freezer, model #25377132791) refrigerator in my basement and last night I noticed a strong 'burning rubber' type smell coming from the fridge. The unit itself was still working and the inside of the fridge and freezer was still emitting cold air, we even heard the compressor kick on. So to be safe, we moved all the frozen items outside since it is very cold our and unplugged the unit. This morning the smell was gone. I'm wondering what could be the cause of the smell (never experienced this before). Is it something that can be fixed inexpensively and without having a professional do it. We are wondering if it is even worth trying to fix.
