  1. Definitely buy DVD + R's or you could buy DVD+ RW's because if you don't like the way it turns out, you can always erase them and start over. You can't with DVD+R's     Stay away from DVD-R's  Your choice.

  3. Hi misschicky,

Look at the front of your recorder and see what it says. They are usually labeled DVD-R, DVD +R or DVD +/-R (meaning either type).

The DVD+R and DVD-R are competing formats much like the old VHS and Beta formats in video tapes. Today most drives are Hybrid and handle both formats. They are usually labeled DVD+/-R.

My personal experience has led me towards using the +R. It is slightly better at error handling so more tolerant of dirty or damaged media and also more tolerant to the subtle differences between players.

As far as brands we have found Verbatim the best, Sony a close second and Memorex the absolute worst.

  4. it depends on your computer.

if you still have the manual it should tell you.

    if your not sure.

take information about it with you next time  you are out so you can ask someone in the electronics of where you are buying.

  5. I had a similar problem.  I asked at the store... they said some players are + and some players are -..... I had NO idea what mine was, for some reason we bought - and they work on all the dvd players I have tried but not through my laptop... Don't know if this is much help???
