Burning directv dvr shows to laptop?

Question

I travel a lot and can't watch all of my dvr'ed shows. Is there anyway to hook up my laptop to my dvr and copy the files to the desktop? Please be specific. Everything that I'm reading is a year old. There has to be an easy way to do this by now.

It depends on what model of dvr box you have

Most of the original dvr boxes have a usb and can hook to your computer

From what I understand, some older models do not,
