If you can burn 5+ hours on one dvd with 4.7g why does it say 120mins on dvd ?

  2. 5+ hours means you are recording at the lowest quality settings using the highest compression possible. A 5+ hour DVD video has artifacts, color distortion and poor audio quality.

    The highest quality video and audio takes up so much room that a 4.7 GB DVD can only hold a little less than 120 minutes. The DVDs you buy at the video store are 9GB DVDs (dual layer) with the highest possible video and audio quality plus room for specials, behind the scenes, and other extras.

  3. It probably depends on the amount of compression. I never burn more than one hour of footage to a DVD. If I try burning more than one hour of video to a DVD, it compresses it even more and the picture quality really starts to look terrible.

    You might be able to burn five hours to a DVD dual layer (DL) disc, but I don't know how to get five hours of content to a 4.7GB, single-layer DVD without really compressing it.
