  1. You yourself just answered your own question. You burned the avi file as "Data", which means that you just burned the avi to a dvd for storage, not for playing in a DVD player.

To burn avi's to DVD for play on standard DVD players there are many programs you could use. I live by VSO ConvertXToDVD. I actually bought it, but since you deal with utorrent, im sure you can find your own copy, but i recommend buying it ;)

ConvertX burns clean DVDs that play on everything i tried it on (XboX,PS2,Xbox360, Many DVD players). Heres the link to VSO, check it out. Its very user friendly too.

  2. i recommend you use convertxtodvd

  3. Had no problems at all with Sothink DVD creator. Its free as well.

  4. The reason it is not playing the video is that you simply just copied it to a dvd.

The .avi file is using Xvid codec, like divx but better.

So you need to convert the movie into .vob formatt which is a dvd.

I would recommend ConvertxToDVD, its very simple and automatic.Drag the file and press convert, after its finish it will burn it also.

The method you used would only work if your dvd player was Divx Certified.

You can do a very hard process of converting the movie into a KVCD, which fits on a single cd instead of a dvd.

Its very hard to explain but if you need to know how just ask me...

  5. You need to transcode the avi in dvd supported files (VOB). You can do so by opening Nero vision and got to the Create a DVD option and follow the instructions. (been so long since I have used Nero) It can take from 1 hour to 7 hours to do so depending on the length, quality, and speed of your computer.

The thing I believe you have done wrong is you burned the xvid/divx avi file to a disc without transcoding and your dvd player doesnt support the divx codec. The only way your method would have worked is if you bought a DivX compatible dvd player which are becoming more popular.

    hope I helped

  9. USE DVD FLICK its free and it will convert your movie to dvd format then burn it to a disc

Your issue maybe that the avi file was not converted and therefor it will not be recognized in the DVD player

Give DVD FLICK a shot (its a bit slow cause of the conversion but it should work)
