Question:

Burning options with MySonic DVD?

What is the difference is between all the burning options this program offers? I just burned a DVD in HQ (high quality) but after only 1 hour of recording, the disc is used up. I need to use the full 2 hour recording capacity of my blank DVDs without resorting to LP, because I've always been lead to believe that LP is very low in video quality. I need someone to describe to me the differences between HQ, standard play (SP), long play (LP), and extended play (EP). will I lose image and video quality if I choose to use one of these other options to gain more recording time? I need these DVDs to look as good as possible! thanks for the help!

  1. The only way you'll find out is by burning the DVDs at the different settings and seeing if you can tell the difference.

The different options give you different sampling rates, but the effect on the video quality depends on what your original video was like - if there was a lot of movement or lighting changes then it's going to suffer.  Unfortunately, amateur video has a lot of shaky camera work and uneven lighting, so I think that getting more than an hour on a DVD is going to adversely affect the quality.  Better editing / authoring packages will adjust the sampling rate so that it's as high as it can go and still fit your video onto a single DVD, but I think that 2 hours is very optimistic.
